Just seen in the paper that another pelican crossing will be installed at the bottom of Salisbury road........so that makes one and a half in London road one and a half in Salisbury road Three in Bath road .....and how many on the Herd Street Swindon road .....NONE!!!!! does any one else from the Portfields area feel that we desperately need a crossing ....with traffic often exceedind 70mph in the 30 mph zone and at least one accident a fortnight with two deaths over the years I would say it was now urgent.......If I get enough responce to this I will start the wheels in motion to get something sorted

I was only thinking the same this morning, when I noticed that another crossing is being constructed literally a stones-throw from the Pelican crossing at Marlborough College. This should save the little darlings having to walk 50 yards - what are local planners thinking of?
How on earth could anyone suggest that local planners think??!! Do bear in mind it was planners that happily approved a listed buiding being demolished to make way for the eyesore of an art block, at the college, that we now all enjoy as we drive into Marlborough from the west!
However ... simple answer for the crossings on the Bath Road ...... money.
The college paid so the college got .... us serfs have to learn that we should be grateful for the crumbs from the Council coffers ..... it doesn't matter that it doesn't address the real issues and will not be particularly useful ...... we should just be grateful to get anything ..... and does it really matter that it still leaves the "have nots" side of town with problems??!
Surely nobody still thinks it is a level playing field??
I am thinking of asking the council to instsall another crossing I wonder what you guys think. I need a crossing from the lamb to the bear as after I have had a few I find it very difficult, nay dangerous even getting between the two.maybe if I , like the college didn't have to pay tax (registered charity don't you know) I could afford to fund my own. and maverick I must dissagree with your view on the new art block it's a fantastic bit of arcitecture combining modern looks with some very traditional building materials . as for the old eye sore if you remember it was a bog standard block of not very good victorian brick work, and it wasn't listed. what is it with this towns obsesion with victoriana just look at that poxy after eight mint clock that the town cowboys, sorry council put up by the priory for the millenium what bleedin' millenium were they celebrating .Right thats that off me chest love light and peace rocker
Latest news - Have heard a rumour that the College is now seeking permission for a third crossing outside their new "Arts" Block, again just a stone's throw from the other two. Will the traffic move at all between 8 & 9am during the week?

Does the college actually use the original crossing, (the arch over the road) I think they now have enough of them and other areas of the town should now be considered

Right I have started the ball rolling (see this weeks Gazette)....now it's audience participation time please can you write to the council or e-mail and tell them that you support the idea of a crossing at portfields and how dangerous the road is at that point, if no one writes the idea will be dropped ......so now it's down to you
Rob
