Blot on the landscape wasn't big enough for Tesco when I asked them ....so I can't see them wanting a smaller place

I have also heard that Tesco could be coming to T H Wite's place - but I bet the rumour is from the same person! I have to say, until now, I have been against out of town shops - for many reasons.  However, with Waitrose now only having to compete with M & S - well the competition could be for who can achieve the highest price.  You have to drive quite a way to find shops with a better price now - Hungerford/Peswey/Swindon - that's not exactly green is it, let alone adding to the traffic problems.  I would have thought that Tesco would need a bigger site - can see it clogging up the London Road because I'm pretty certain it would be well used.  We do need a shop with competitive and realistic prices AND a free car park.  This will be an interesting one - the High Street is really rather overloaded with Female Fashion and Coffee Shops now.  Tesco Metro would have been just right for the old Somerfield site - shame really.  Marlborough is going to have to be careful that it looks after ALL its' residents - not just the wealthy ones - or it will take a nose dive.

Aldi and Lidl really do want to come to Marlborough....they are both activley seeking sites here.......we need to change someones mind about the type of use the blot on the landscape is for ....as an experiment we shopped in Waitrose instead of Asda ........we will try again next week but I think our avergae £80 bill in Asda works out at £108 in Waitrose......it costs me around £5 in fuel etc to get to Asda so I am still £23 worse off shopping here ....I can see a petition coming up about that site soon ......strange that the council is so quiet about it isn't it
