Hi folks - long time since I contributed (sorry Rob!)

Those of you who watched BBC Points West yesterday or listened to the Breakfast programme on BBC Radio Wiltshire this morning, will already know my views on this one, but here goes anyway!

It cannot be legal to knowingly place a device which has the capability to be remotely monitored on someone's private property without their prior knowledge or consent.

If it is legal, then it would mean I could place a device on your car and monitor where you travelled at any given moment in time, and use that information for my own purposes.

Currently, I have raised this as a direct question at Director level at Kennet District Council.  It is my intention to let people know their reply as soon as I have one (IF I get one!).

This has cost £2 per bin to fit (do the maths on the total cost that must have been to us the taxpayer).

One word of advice - do not remove the devices yourselves, as this could be construed as defacing Council property (crazy I know, but the law is often an ass!), with the result that you could be fined.

If you don't like what is happening, then email/ring/lobby Kennet  so that they know how people feel.  The biggest ally that Kennet have is people's apathy.

Finally, remember that next May you can decide to stand for election yoursleves, or to vote against your current local Councillor, who should now be taking active and public steps to rectify what has happened.

Kennet are our public servants.... does it feel that way to you?

If KDC start charging to remove refuse by the kg then surely two things will happen - increased fly tipping (bad) and more bonfires (very bad).  You only have to look at what happened when  landfill charges were increased about 10 years.  People will always take the cheapest option, even if it is illegal or environmentally damaging.

Mine fell out or someone prised it out and left it on the floor.....not knowing what it was I picked it up and put it in the bin........the dustmen threw it away.

just had a thought ...should I have put it in the plastic recyle bin?

Where I live there isn't easy access for the refuse truck so all the residents put all their bins together in one place at the most convenient spot for the binmen.  The first week of the wheelie bin regime we all put our bins out and most of them hadn't been personalised with house number etc.  After the bin men had been I just grabbed the first one and dragged it back to my house.  For all I know I might have somebody else's bin.  If KDC start charging I just hope I have the bin belonging to the little old lady up the street!!

If the councils reason for fitting them was so innocent(??) then why didn't they tell people when they announced the scheme. They didn't so one has to draw the conclusion that it was something they wished to hide. The fact that the "chips" were so easily discovered  leads to another two possible conclusions - the council are unbelievably stupid or unbelievably arrogant. Either way I suggest at the next council elections we all take this fact into consideration.

I for one will not be voting for any of the current councillors at the next election.

What Rob ... not even any of the Town Councillors??!!!

You may (or may not) be interested to learn that I sent an email to 42 of the 43 District Councillors (one doesn't have a computer so he was getting a copy passed to him), two days ago with a number of questions regarding the whole fiasco that is the Alternate Weekly Collection.

I made it perfectly clear that I support the need to recycle and help the environment.

I also included four phgotographs which I took in George Lane Car Park on Sunday evening (one should be being published in this weeks Gazette as by the time they got there it had all been cleared away!!).

So far I have received just four replies!

What is becoming increasingly clear is that it seems to me that most of the decisions and initiatives are determined by officers at Kennet and s very few 'inner group' of Councillors.  I say that because it is amazing how many councillors at Kennet claim that they did not know most of the things that become public .. until they become public knowledge!

Perhaps I should stand for Kennet as well eh Rob?!!!

I'll be perfectly honest .......I haven't voted for any one in a long time......if it wasn't for the fact that my credit rating depended on it I wouldn't send back my electoral role paperwork either.

I'll vote for my chosen rep on Kennet when the offices are moved to a field miles away from anywhere so there is no favouritism to their home town...(anyone else noticed how Devizes comes first with most things).......but at the moment they just represent themselves ...especialy Mr. Smug (I am sure we all know him)

I don't know if it's ture but I am hearing a lot of rumours regarding the increased dumping of rubbish in the Severnake Forest.  I know two people who have started to incinerate their refuse because their wheelie bin is not big enough for two weeks rubbish.  For every knee jerk policy there is a reaction somewhere else.  I am not against the wheelie bins, I just feel that having to go to Everleigh or Devizes to recycle stuff that won't go in the black box is time consuming and involves driving which of course is environmentally damaging.  Why can't we have a recycling centre closer to Marlborough first, then the wheelie bins ?

There was going to be a recycling centre on the new industrial estate at the bottom of Postern hill but the local residents wern't too happy (quite rightly) and the developers said it would put off potential clients,   so they are looking for a site at the moment, also increased traffic will come into it.

You can get rid of a few things at the George lane car park, bottles, card board, Plastic and textiles, but I have noticed a huge jump in the amount of bonfires and an awful lot more rubbish is being dumped on the side of the road.

I didn't know that George Lane had facilities for recycling plastic and cardboard. Are these a permanent arrangement ? The KDC website lists George Lane as glass, paper, cans and clothes only.

Kennet provide two skips which are emptied in theory every day except Sunday in George Lane car park - one for cardboard and one for plastics.  These are paid for by Marlborough Town Council.  Kennet have stated that they will be increasing the number of skips for plastics and cardboard because of the fact that every Sunday they get overfull and sacks of plastic and cardboard are left all around the skips.
