Social life in Marlborough?

Greetings all!

There is a strong possibility that I may be moving to Marlborough to start a new life soon. I was wondering if any of you guys could give me an overview of social life in your little town.

I'm a 27y.o. man and I'm used to city-style life, however it is enough for me to know that there is at least a selection of pubs available, and not just quaint little olde englande type pubs either - any wine bars? Any clubs? What is the ratio between young and old and between men and women - especially available women? I think you get the idea.

Appreciated.

Eton.

9 pubs, at least one wine bar, one club, loads of restaurants and a high proportion of elderly/retired people

Male female about equal but very few can afford to stay here so most people move out within a few years of leaving school mostly to Swindon, Devizes and Calne....Swindon is the nearest large Town where most things can be found.

Hope that helps

Thanks.
So probably I will just have to commute to Marlborough from the more interesting Devizes or Calne.
Cheers.

Hello

You don't want to believe everything you read here!!  How much you get out of this town really depends on YOU and what you are prepared to put in!  If you have any particular interests - they may be catered for here.  If you like Art, History, Music - especially Jazz of course! - if you are keen on environmental issues, helping to raise money for a cinema/theatre that already has planning permission if ...... a hundred ifs!!  There are two of three wine bars - lots of stimulating company in them - pubs that cater for every aspect - incredible walking country - a leisure centre if your sporty - golf clubs I could go on.  Why don't you give the Local Information Point a ring  - 01672 511913 - tell them your interests and they can put you in touch with all the relevant places.  Hope you move in and enjoy!

Cheers

Angel

Did you ever come to Marlborough Eton?

New member here so be nice.

I'm 31 and like Eton was planning on doing, I'm heading to London. For my wife and I, it will certainly be Marlborough. We don't know anyone within 20 miles of the town and we don't have jobs lined up. But to us, getting our home life sorted is the most important thing. So we've spent the last few years trying to decide where in England we'd most like to live. Neither of us are from London originally so have no ties there. We wanted a small town which was attractive and was in an area of nice countryside. After much travelling we found that Marlborough ticked the most boxes. For me its location is perfect - Savernake, the downs, the ridgeway, Avebury etc...
So we've gone from not knowing anything about Marlborough to wanting to set up home here. I thought it might be nice to comment on the appeal of the town from an outsider. I'm sure we're not making a mistake!

Thanks
