Just found out something interesting about the French market held in Marlborough last week ........after they had sold out of things they went into Waitrose and bought some more!!!!!!! funny thing is at their prices they still made a profit....
never thought I'd say this but get the same stuff from Waitrose it's cheaper
How long will it be before the normal market traders ask for a level playing field.....the french market don't pay rent for their "pitch".......they also get all the parked cars moved for them ...normal traders can loose their pitch if cars are parked on it......
just stirring it a bit ...what do you think

Everybody may not agree with the French market, but surely there is something to learn here, especially the regular traders I'm thinking attitude, presentation and product.
Also, is it right that the Town Council have no control over the market pitches and that they are run by Kennet D.C.
If this is true how the hell did this happen, markets must be one of the most local events to happen in a town and the Town Council must have a say!!
What actually do the Town Council do for the people of the Town?
You'll have to research what a Town Council is actually allowed to do - or of course you could email the Local Information Point and ask them whilst they've still got some trained officers! Be quick though as Kennet District Council may pull the plug on that soon, now they've installed some sort of strange computer in the High Street!!
In general, Town Councils have few teeth and even fewer real powers. Town councils are really just a Parish Council in a slightly bigger place. They can comment, suggest, lean on, initiate etc. I think Google will provide you with answers - I haven't tried on this subject but maybe - parish/council/uk/powers would come up with something. I'll have a go when I have a mo!
