new Computer

My computer was showing signs of stress so after 7 years of hard labour I decided a new one was on the cards ..........collected a "bare bones" unit from Portsmouth(case with fans and psu, mainboard and processor....AMD Athlon 64 3500mgz. 1024 mb RAm )   bought a new 160gb SATA hard drive to go in it and spent yesterday morning setting it up and afternoon and this morning loading all the settings/software/two printers/scanner/wireless network/dvd R/RW/Zip drive) and getting on to the internet.........and boy is it fast, click on anything and it comes up instantly......someone must have been looking out for me as so far it has gone together brilliantly..............but doing something like that does make me nervous and it is not something I would like to do too often.....and it got me to thinking ...

HOW OLD is your computer?

Ours isn't that old because we bought it when we moved here about fifteen months ago.  The thing we find over here in the USA is perhaps worse than the UK, that is viruses, popups and all the other unwanted junk.  And, yes, we do have virus protection, spyware scanners and the like.  Still, to a person raised on black and white TV, and vinyl records, I still think it is amazing what it achieves.

Hi Rob,

Sounds like you have yourself a mean flying machine there. Sounds great.  We don't have hi-speed internet in the area where we live. When my grandchildren come to visit from the city, they say "Nana how can you stand this so slow."

My monitor is about 12 years old and the screen is gradually shrinking, the printer is about 3 years old and the box its is about 4 yrs, (just a reconditioned).   Ireally would love to get a new one and have been looking around.

But like Jeremy it  always amazes me what you can do with the newer machines and all the gadgets that you can put on them.

Regards   Pat
