The Common and the Golf club

The golf club occupies 66% of the common leaving 33% for use by the every other organisation and person in Marlborough .....now they want another 2 acres for a driving and practice range, including some "temporary" buildings to play from, this will not be fenced off so the public using the common will have to keep an eye out for any golf balls heading in their direction.
Now the question is should they get any more? the Carnival fun day was planning on expanding next year, but if this goes ahead it will have to cut back on this years event and may not become a viable proposition.
I will attach a poll to see what people think.

Sorry Rob but I think you will find that the golf club do not want any more of the common than they already have.

The question perhaps should be do we want the tennis club to have a permanent home for the first time for many years?

A few months back the question was asked as to how many non-golfers have ever been hit by a golf ball. The answer was that none had ever been reported. The public are allowed to walk across all of the golf course including that which is not common land.

For the record I am not a golfer or a tennis player but I would like to see both facilities within our town.

Also for the record, if we can continue to have fairs and circuses and provide for a rugby club, a model flying club and also a goal post (as well as a veritable horde of dog walkers!) then I am sure that the Carnival fun day (a very successful and much enjoyed day) can manage to also come back next year and potentially expand as well, especially if it seeks to work with the golf, tennis, rugby and model flying clubs to gain their involvement and co-operation.

I know the golf club will start with about 60 acres and will if the plan goes ahead end up with about 60 acres ....but the rest of marlborough starts with about 20 acres and finishes up with about 18 acres (the golf club gives two acres to the tennis club) I just hope the "temporary buildings/shelters" are turned down, ( there are too many buildings on the common now).
We will have to go and measure up what's left when this happens and see what we can and can't use for the fun day (the Helicopter trips are almost certainly off)
