Just heard on the news that Prince Charles is to marry Camilla Park & Ride in the next few months!! I suppose it was on the cards after the theatricals here when we allowed them to visit us last year.....
The theatricals when Camilla was stage managed onto the scene for a 'natural' meeting with Prince Charles, outside the Merchants house, just enough time for the media to get their sound bites and piccies. Don't tell that was'nt pure theatre!!
I must confess to having a feeling of total disinterest about the royal wedding. Like so many of us, they've made a right mess of their lives, have not been true to their hearts and have suffered as a result. Most people do this in private - the royal family do it in public. Really, that's the only difference between "them & us". I guess the line that comes to mind is "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" comes to mind. I'm not religious, but that and the old "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" saying are well worth remembering.
Maybe the royal family of many periods have been dysfunctional- they don't live in the real world- the queen must think Britain smells of fresh Dulux. But would we want the alternative? Australia recently voted to maintain the current constitution on the basis that they distrusted politicians so much.
there are very mixed feelings I think in OZ , having contacts there - about royalty. There are the diehard royalists but many who want them out and a repubkic in - so I think you will see OZ go away from the royalty and towards the republic pretty soon!
I'm so bored with the whole thing - when royal events used to happen, it was always a great time to go shopping 'cos everyone was watching the TV - I doubt we'll even notice with this one. Now Charles has been so churlish with having a few pics taken - stuff him - don't even want to bother to look!
I think the feelings expressed here about sum up how most of the country feel - indifferent - although I was glad to see/hear his comments about the press. What a bunch of hypocrites they are and by all accounts for once most of the public appear for once to agree with Charles. It's good to see the journalists in such a quandary. What will the BBC do now?
Come the glorious day I shall probably be creosoting a fence rather than watch the wedding on TV. However let's just hope that this wife turns out to be better than the last.
I feel quite deeply offended by the comment about Princess Diana. For a kick off I think it is very bad manners to speak ill of the dead - and secondly, whether you loved or hated the Princess, at least she did a great deal of active good in the world whilst also knocking some of the stuffiness out of the royals. She dared to live in the real world at it is now and sadly died in it in the same way.
