It was last held in 2003 but due to lack of enthusiasm it has stopped again, the bounds or boundary was about 9 mules in length and the purpose of walking it was so that everybody knew where the boundary stones/limits were, the srones were beaten with sticks, hence "beating the bounds"........... it usually took place on Acension day and was sometimes accompanied by the blessing of the crops Not sure when it started but it is an old tradition in Marlborough, as in most places, and makes a good walk but as already said apathy and the good old health and safety (One footpath is under dispute and the person whose land it is on threatened to shoot tresspassers) has just about finished it off. another family and mine used to organise it but it was getting more difficult each year.......I can't really see it taking off again.

Also, in the original notes I had a line that claimed one of the boundaries was a water boundary, and that a Mayor was once "ducked" there. Does this ring a bell with you? (I wonder whether I have a note confused here)
The boundary does follow the River Og for a while and some used to get in and walk along the River, but the boundary is on the bank, I think one Mayor was pushed along it in a canoe, The original boundary stones aren't followed any more as they are on the older smaller boundary.
And I am guessing here but I would have thought that the church was the Church of England
