well where do you start . if you like to play football ,M.T.F.C have a good little club and are always looking for new players and members they are based at elcot lane also cheapest pint in town. M.R.F.C has a good rugger set up in their new club on the common. hockey at the college. running club at the leisure centre ditto squash, badders. also all the other activities there. gym, swimming etc. we also have a few pubs, roebuck a bit out of town can be a bit quiet great sunday roasts and also they have a new chef who is really good .crown hotel in the parade young and brash a bit chavvy but can be fun somtimes. the lamb inn next to the crown a proper old boozer with a land lord who knows what he;s doing quite popular but could be better if they did;t kick you out at 11. just up the road is the bear with trev as landlord this is probably the most popular place in town all top sporting events shown on telly live music every friday late licence and ocasional quizzes. moving along the high street the green dragon oh dear! the prime spot for any pub in town used to be brilliant. if you like 80s spandex rock then this is the place for you they dont even play led zep. land lady is very friendly but the others. well! nuff said . bottom side far end the welly havnt been there for a long time they used to do a good quiz and food used to be good . across the road, the sun old style pub I think they still have open mike jam sessions nice court yard for summer used to known as the interlectuals pub probably because of the college. back towards the centre top, royal oak quiet in the week but usualy very busy at the weekends massive town pub a bit inpersonal, dance floor at the rear and plenty of eye candy about . castle and ball nice for a quiet drink almost expect the major to walk by and say "papers in yet fawlty". azzuzas up hughendon yard great for coffee but in the evening has about as much atmosphere as a caravan site. queens head st. martins hav'nt been there since the new landlord but reports are good and as andy nash is the new boss it will be . i think thats it with pubs you aslo have the con club if you want to talk about how much better it was under thatcher loads of eaterys the best being coles at the top of kingsbury st. worst in my opinion ask. tasts like fozen ready made sauces, mind you this has all been in my opinion I might see my town in a completly different light than every one else. ive missed loads of other stuff like the jazz festival , anyway as the yanks say enjoy love light and peace the rockster
I'm planning on moving to Marlborough with my wife in the summer. We don't know anyone in the area, nor have we got jobs lined up but we're going to move. We live in London now and have been planning our exit for a couple of years and have carefully selected where we want to move to. Marlborough it is. We're late 20's early 30's. What's the demographic? We spent a weekend in Marlborough in October and really liked it. It seemed a decent balance of young and older. As long as you can get decent real ale I'm happy though
I'd say you've made a good choice in Marlborough. Don't be put off by the abundance of retirement properties up for sale - there is still a few of us under 40's living in the town. As for real ale - you won't be disappointed. Only this evening have I sampled a number of fine pints of Waddies 6X in one of the town's hostelries. I'd be more than willing to share a few more with you by way as an introduction to the town when you finally arrive - if only as an excuse to have a few myself Drop me a PM when you you've settled in - then at least you'll know one family in the town...
Many thanks Fogey -will do. We're putting our place on the market this week so will be looking out for property soon. Hopefully we'll be down before the end of the summer.
