13 year olds getting served in marlborough!

hello everyone.

i dont want to seem horrid or anything... but........

underage people are getting into some pubs and other over 18 places in marlborough on a friday and saturday night. i was informed of a 13 year old getting into one of these places and being served alcohol..completely shocking, you can not tell me that a 13 year old looks 18! its silly. i do not wish to say what place this is but i do not believe this is acceptable!! they should be stronger on id...

what are your views on being asked for id in marlborough?? do you think they ask enough or not? have you had any experiance of underage people getting served in the pubs? and what do you think should be done?

If you know the pub or licensed premisies ( I can think of one without trying) then either name and shame (but make sure you have proof first) or let your community officer know, John is very good....and so is Mike....they can have a word in the owners ear and it can be stopped, or at least kept an eye on, without any bad feeling.

The licencees don't want to be caught as they can loose their license and be fined the people serving and the buyers themselves can be fined, so it's a no win thing really.

Where I lived (a long time ago)we could and did go to pub regularly from 13 there was only 3 or 4 of us and once we had the trust of the landlord (small pub and he could keep an eye on you) we could go in up to 9.30 and play pool and the juke box drink coke or even shandy, and have a good time, and to be honest we learnt a lot through interacting with other members of the community (some good some bad).

I don't think going in the pub is a bad thing but trying to buy and drink loads of alcohol wont win you any brownie points.......just think you tried to get in pubs as much as possible right up to you were 18 and then when it was legal it lost its sparkle a bit.

ID checks on the doors, like the Oak, would stop this dead in its tracks, but guess who pays for the door staff.......correct!!! you do every time you buy a drink
