I regularly read the forum but, apart from one post years ago, never contribute anything. With the New Year and all that, and probably something to do with hitting my 40's, I am going to have a moan about some aspects of Marlborough (some of my points are applicable to other towns I am sure) which get me down.
Recycling in George Lane Car Park
Why is it that whenever I dutifully take my cardboard and plastic bottles down to be recycled the containers are always overflowing? I try different days of the week but I am always left clambering over the overflow lifting lid after lid looking for any semblance of a void into which to put my stuff. My last three trips have resulted in taking something back home with me (in one case everything). Do they ever get emptied? If anybody knows the optimum time to visit please let me know. And why can't people flatten cardboard and bottles as requested? Some people don't even bother to segregate their waste, they just chuck it in the vague vicinity of the containers in refuse bags and leave it to someone else.
The State of the Roads
Have you noticed the state of the road leaving the George Lane car park, especially by Skurrays? It is not a case of avoiding the pot holes, more like trying to locate the shallower ones and avoiding the deeper ones. And there are other places where it's just as bad like the foot of the Salisbury Road.
Buying pants
I am a man and I want to buy pants (and socks) sometimes. Why can you not get pants in Marlborough? I went into the new shop which took over the old Somerfield/M&S place (is it called M&Co?) because I had heard it sold low cost family clothing. When I asked, I found out they only did Women's stuff. Market reasearch might have told them that Marlborough already has one or two women's clothes shops. Obviously I wasn't the first person to mention this to them judging by the look on the poor girl's face in the shop.
Cycling on the Pavement (especially in the High Street)
Okay I know the roads are dangerous for cyclists, but why do cyclists make the pavements equally as unsafe for pedestrians? Lots of people walking about on a narrow strip of concrete trying to dodge some kid on a bike with handlebars about three foot wide is going to result in a collision, statistically, at some point.
Litter
Why is it that every night the litter fairy comes out and drops crisp packets, coke bottles, costa coffee cups and chip cartons outside my house? Don't people take stuff home with them like I was taught as a boy?
That is enough for now.
In the future I will post to say what I like about Marlborough (and there is a lot to like) just to balance things up.

I have to say I can't argue with any of them, they are all true .....we did find that by going to do the recycling early the truck was there and we could get rid of it, for pants go and see eddie on the market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the roads ....ring Clarence on 0800 23 23 23. Cycling on the pavement is an offence and could be dealt with by the police....if you could find one. And Litter....is an offence and could be dealt with by the police....if you could find one or they were brave enough to go out at night
