Music Concerts

I just mentioned on the  discussion page about football, for those who paying attention (at about 3am UK time) that I was going on to ask about concerts.

I'm in my 40s and fairly conventional and have been really lucky with the visiting artists to Houston in the last year or so.

I've seen Fleetwood Mac (minus Christine Mcvie), Phil Collins and Elton John. My wife also went to see Sting appearing with Annie Lennox.

Most of these artists were seen for the equivilant of about 18 pounds per ticket.

SO, GIRLS,AND BOYS, who have you seen and who would you like to see??

What memories do they bring back?

One very embarrising one for me is going to the first Everley brothers reunion, which was held in the Royal Albert Hall circa 1981.  My girlfriend of the time was very excited, but getting there I knew I was really tired.  Unfortunately for me, the concert was to be televised, and when it was shown-on Christmas Day- she phoned me up to say she had seen me asleep next to her when they were playing a slow number.  We didn't get married.

As a student in the early 70s I saw many great bands but since then have only seen a few.

Last year I saw Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings at Salisbury and they were excellent (tickets £24.50) and saw Jools Holland at the Memorial Hall a few years ago (part of the Jazz Festival) but decided not to go the following year when he played in a marquee on the common. It was a very hot day and I decided that I had better things to do. My wife went with friends but did not enjoy the atmosphere (the people next to her nearly had a fight over one of them using a mobile phone during the show) and I don't think Jools did either. After the show he was quite rude to some of the people at the Rugby Club (which he was using as a dressing room), jumped into his Rolls Royce and hasn't been back to Marlborough since. I can't remember the exact price of the tickets but £50 comes to mind.

The next venture is to see Elton John at Swindon in June. It will bring back lots of student days memories. I started to phone for tickets the moment they went on sale and finally got through after 35 minutes by which time the only seats available for a block of 6 cost £60 each (ouch!).

Which artist would I most like to see live? Jess Roden - who is probably the most underated British blues singer ever. Sadly he hasn't performed live since 1992ish.

Now that is what I call bad luck! Steve Winwood is right up their with Jess Roden in my opinion. Arc of a Diver is my favourite album by him. What's yours?

I like the Chronicles album which has Arc of The Diver on it, my favourite track being Valerie.  It was annoying to miss him.
