Football

Let's see if this starts something.

Who supports/follows which team?

I followed Leeds United from about 1970 because I  had lived there. They also happened to be one of the top teams in Europe at the time.

My dad saw Swindon beat The Arsenal at Wembley in the League Cup Final.

So tell us what you think or what you've seen.

Hi Jeremy

If your post doesn't start something this will

I DETEST FOOTBALL it's all there is in the way of "sport" on TV now and in britain it seems to run peoples lives....it's all they talk about, dream about, think about, when we ran the carnival we had to plan our events round the football matches.......how sad is that........and it's got boring what happened to motor sport, wrestling, track and field etc. etc.

OK OK .... I'll bite!!

I am one of those sad individuals who is a season ticket holder at Swindon Town (and have been for about 14 years now)!

In my defence, I seldom watch any sport on TV, preferring to watch live sport so I can look at the aspects I choose rather than the camera.

Over the past few years I have also been to Speedway, Ice Hockey, Stock Cars and I go about five times a year to Thruxton to watch motor sport.

In my defence, my preference is for watching sport that is not awash with too much money as it seems that this merely serves to change a sporting contest into a business.

How ludicrous is it that a game where 22 players run around on a piece of grass has now been taken over and is run by billionaires or big business and many of the larger companies are publicly quoted businesses answerable to shareholders rather than fans.

So ... all I would suggest is that if you want to watch sport .... get out there and see it for real, it has to be better than fighting over a remote control with your 'nearest and dearest'!

Hi Jeremy,

When I lived in Marlborough I used to follow Swindon Town (Trollope was my heart throb lol)and I loved Manchester United. That was before that terrible accident.

Used to go to the Speedway At Blunsdon.

Have just finished a week of curling on TV here, (Canada beat out Scotland) as well as a weekend of Golf from Georgia.

I agree it's better to go to the live event, rather than see it on TV- and it doesn't need to be top notch stuff.

Over here in Houston I've got to love baseball.  I think it"s for fans who have a sense of their history.  The stadium here is modern and has a removable roof.  The atmosphere is great and it's great to chat to whoever you are siiting next to.

Also been to the mega stadium here to see Everton FC play some pre season matches against Mexican opposition.

Just a new thought- since I've been here, I've been to more pop concerts than ever before, so look for the new discussion.
