A man after me own heart - I hate rubbish passionately and have my own litter pickers supplied by the council!! I clean my own road up every week - the river of course is something else! It seems, for my sins, I'm the rubbish angel!
I just love this Marlborough thugs' tradition of, go out - get drunk - throw anything moveable from shopping trolley to traffic cones into the river. Goes SPLOSH - now isn't that entertaining! GET A LIFE YOU GUYS! It is not entertaining unless you are still in short trousers or find rattles are your favourite toys. BUT - I am about to fight back - big fines payable on dropping litter of throwing things in river - and guess what - CCTV is really coming down in price! Just wait! It'll cost you hard cash and your reputation - have fun by all means, get drunk if you must but STOP costing us money in council tax - that's what you do you see. The council charges will continue upwards while they have to pick up after you brainless people so climb back in your prams and have a little think. You never know when you're being watched!
Rubbish is a pet peeve of mine too, and here in Canada its just as bad. Of course in winter we can't clean up as well, but in spring its disgusting what you find. Actually in the fall we were out walking and took bags with me (plastic shopping bags ) as i filled them i would leave it until i came back and by the time a got back (about 1/2 hour) I had 6 bags full to overflowing. Everything from beer bottle (4) to coffee cups, even bags full of rubbish that people just dumped. Some people have no pride in the countryside.
Marlborough is much cleaner than many places I have seen. There always seems to be someone cleaning up around the high street and surrounding area, but litter gets everywhere. I agree that the river seems to be a particular target, which is unfortunate and also unsightly. I hope cctv is installed and will help reduce the problem
