I believe that Chris Humphries was quoted in the local paper as saying that councillors pay rise would cause "a bit of a flurry".  He's quite right of course, that is exactly what will happen - then everyone will have Christmas and New Year - by that time most people will have forgotten about it. Good time to bury bad news isn't it?

So, who elects councillors??  YOU DO!  Who can get councillors OFF the council?? YOU can!!  In the long term, you can simply withohold your vote from them, but what can we do in the short term?  I believe it is possible to convene a special public meeting - as was done for the Sunday Parking Charge - and make our voices heard.

It is difficult to find out how many people - council tax payers I mean, are out here saying "How dare the!!!"  But, how do we find each other?  This website is one way - and then maybe and avalance of letters to the Gazette and Herald.  If the council really wanted younger people on board - which was their excuse for the pay rise, it's easy, just hold meetings in the evenings after most people have finished work.  Other councils do just that, allowing the average age of the councillors to drop considerably.  You know, you can email the Editor of the Gazette and Herald to make your views known.  COME ON!  Wake up - the address is glawrence@newswilts.co.uk   Whinge where it will make a difference!
