How will the closure of our MIU affect you

How will the cosure of Savernake Hospital MIU (minor injuries unit) affect you.......

I would like to know if and how this closure will affect you.....for instance: I have to have regular blood tests and used to go to the MIU early in the morning to have this done so I could go to work afterwards, never knew where I would be working so couldn't book an appointment at the surgery and come back from work, it is only because I have changed my job for one in Marlborough that I can still get to have blood tests at all,

I can't be the only one who would or will have problems ....so please add them on this thread.......and spread the word please to anyone who is affected in this way to put a post up on here.......

THIS IS IMPORTANT so please do let people know

Perhaps the blood test is a problem because the surgery in Marlborough decided to do away with evening and weekend appointments some time ago ... funny how that didn't raise any outcry! Now most people have to take time off work to see their GP.

As for minor injuries, not sure how blood tests fit within that description.

Who the hell has time to travel to GWH, Chippenham or Trowbridge for a cut that needs cleaning or any other minor injury?? The PCT is complete bunch of faceless penpushers/ accountants with NO idea of local needs. What is all this travelling going to do the CO2 emmisions? We are supposed to be reducing them!!

Hi! I've just found this site (was looking for a decent map of Marlborough - no joy on that) but was caught by the 'how will the closure of the MIU affect you?' post. I'd like to just reply to that, but I can't find how to just 'post' on the website - perhaps you can let me know?

Anyway, what I want to post is that I have fallen foul of the closure - on Thursday morning my Mum in Law, who lives at the bottom ofthe London Road in Marlborough, managed to scald herself (bleeding the bathroom radiator, aged 86 - ho hum) and I thought I could at least take her to the GP surgery (where she is registered) for someone to take a quick look. But, predictably - no - it was a 20 min drive to GWH (stuck behind a cement lorry on the A346) and then a two and a half hour wait in A&E. We were actually assessed on arrival, her hands stuck under a cold tap for a few minutes, but no treatment or bandaging until after the wait.

Had we been able to go to the MIU at Savernake, we'd have been seen immediately and sent back home in about 10 minutes. For an 86 year old patient, this makes a BIG difference. When is the PCT going to realise that it is cras stupidity to close down a facility which cost millions and which can make a real difference to rapid response treatment in so many situations?
