We need to have a co-ordinated approach to this terrible news!! Can we have news of demonstrations and advice on the best ways to show our feelings on this disgusting decision. WE NEED THE MINOR INJURIES CLINIC TO STAY OPEN Especially with the doctors not on call after hours!
Has anyone thought to contact the staff who run MIU in order to ascertain what they do, what they COULD do, what is required, what is in demand etc etc. Also how this unit could be made cost effective.
Has anyone enquired what will happen to patients with minor injuries - will they go to the local surgery? Will the doctors be paid a fee to treat the patients who are re-routed via the Surgery?
What else could be taken on by the MIU nurses who are highly qualified? There are a great many questions that you could be asking. Blocking the High Street with horses will not impress the PCT who for many and varied reasons are really only interested in cash flows.
Can I suggest a genuine fact finding mission first - then put forward a plan that can SAVE the PCT money. Who pays for patients who turn up at GWH with injuires - because that is a different PCT. Would anyone in this area seriously consider driving to MIU at Chippenham?
Come on guys - someone from outisde the Health Service needs to ask question and correlate facts.............. THEN run a campaign. Emotion and anecdotal stuff has no place here - hard facts and well thought out plans are the only way forward.
